Principal's Message 2012-2013
Every Child, Every Day

Welcome to the opening of what promises to be a wonderful 2012-2013 school year! This year we will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Polton Community Elementary School.  At this time of the year, there is great anticipation of what is to come and I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of Polton’s kindergarten through 5th grade students, our parents and our community. Polton is one of Cherry Creek’s two S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) elementary schools. As a designated school of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, we are dedicated to equitably educating and preparing all students for success in the 21st century…“Every Student, Every Day!”

Together, teachers, students and parents make a strong Polton family.  We appreciate your support as your child enters the classroom to learn and grow throughout the year. Let’s all commit to setting everyone, students as well as teachers, up for success.
I look forward to meeting the new members of our community and connecting with returning community members. I encourage families to get to know each other so that you can build new friendships and support each other as the need arises.
A few things to make our year go more smoothly – first, please help us to be good, safe neighbors. The traffic flow and traffic signs both in the parking lot and along our streets should be followed carefully. Make sure to park legally and be aware of blocking driveways.  As tempting as it might be to bring your dog up to school, pets are to remain off campus during drop-off, recesses, and pick-up. If you must bring your dog on campus for some reason, please keep him/her on a leash.  Be considerate of children and adults who might be allergic to and/or who might be uncomfortable around animals.
Another way to help our year go smoothly is to continuously check our Polton website: It will be frequently updated and has information you need to keep on top of what’s happening at school. We will no longer send home hard copies of our newsletter but will post all important information on the website. The website also has a direct link to the Cherry Creek School District website: that will inform you about important district information and provide links to schools, departments, etc.
Finally, school begins at 9:00 a.m. and children should be in line by 8:55 a.m. Please remember to bring an official identification card (driver’s license, state I.D., military I.D.) any time you plan to check your child out of school. We cannot release students to any adult or older child who is not listed on the student emergency card that you completed during the online check-in process.
The teachers have put a lot of time and energy getting ready for the year.  Having spent a lot of time here this summer, I was impressed to see the dedication of our staff preparing all summer for the school year.  At Polton, the staff, faculty and I are honored that you entrust us with your precious ones. The hours that your children are with us each day are so important.  Here’s to a great school year!
With Great Anticipation,
Richie Strickland, M.A.Ed.
